The new Bont parabolic
blades are the latest breakthrough in ice speed skating.

The
above diagram shows how the parabolic blade works. Think of a carving snow
ski, the same principles are applied to our blade, but on a much smaller
scale. The blade offers huge advantages over normal blades as the blade no
longer falls away and will turn back in at the end of each push giving you
more power. In the corner, the blades turn themselves, resulting in less
effort on your part. This will allow you to stay closer to the blocks and
skate a shorter distance on the track which will mean faster times.
The
blade is thinner in the centre, and wider at the ends. Previously in long
track skating, the top skaters acknowledged the advantage of a bent blade for
the corners, but they don't want to have a reverse bend on the left blade on
the straights. The parabolic is effectively a double bent blade. Short track
skaters know how much extra push they can get off the right blade compared to
the left blade due to the bend. In short track, the blade can still be bent so
on the left side of the blade you have your normal bend, but the right side
will be virtually straight. This offers the distinct advantage over a normal
blade which has a reverse bend on the blade when you skate down the straight
pushing with the left blade. The Parabolic system is only available on the
Sonic 7000 and Sonic 7000 Clap.
We 1st had the idea for a parabolic blade
way back in 1994. In 1995 we began testing them and even went to the trouble
of planning to patent the idea, but at the time we didn't have a cost effective
way to manufacture them so we let the patent slide. Now, with 3 years
experience making ice blades and a cost effective method to produce them in
our factory, we have the pleasure in introducing the worlds first mass
produced Parabolic blade.
FAQ
Q: Do
I need 2 parabolic blades or just 1?
A: You only need a parabolic blade
on the left one, the right one only needs to be bent one way because you only
push in one direction with the right blade.
Q: Can I buy just 1 blade
then?
A: no, because it has to be the same height as your right blade so
you can sharpen them together...
