Waco Indoor Invitational

Gypsy Tidwell, Joe Cotter, and many others put on a fantastic indoor skating
event this past weekend at Skate Country in Waco, TX.  Skaters came from as
far as Philadelphia and California to attend.  Sonny Felter's team from
Austin, Texas took home the high point trophy, and skating superstars such
as Todd Foley, Kyle Lazzell, Terrance Allmond, and Sara Sayasan (among
others) took turns turning and burning up the freshly coated skating floor.

Some skaters have made the switch to the 100mm set up for indoor racing and
say the extra roll is definitely recognizable.  Sara Sayasan, however,
managed to blast away from her Senior Ladies field using the Bont Sniper
5x84mm set up, so it remains to be seen which set up works best for each
individual person.  Time and testing will only tell.

Colin Thomas pounded the Elementary Boys field, winning all 3 distances, as
well as placing top 10 in the grand champions race.  Terrance Allmond had an
unfortunate accident in a Senior Men's final, taking an airborn tumble over
two others who had fallen in front of him, landing on his shoulder and
resulting in a fractured shoulder and wrist.

The "Hillbilly Race" was a hoot.  Gypsy organized this one, gathering the
"celebrity skaters" to participate.  First lap was a foot race, 2nd lap you
had to find one of your size quad skates and stumble around the floor on
only one skate, and the final lap was an all out sprint on both of the
speedy brown rink quads......and the winner is????  Gypsy Tidwell!  Hmmmm,
was that a set up??  I think she put some extra hours in training for this
one.
