SEINAJOKI, Finland (Feb. 19, 2005) --  The U.S. Junior Long Track Speedskaters enjoyed another successful day at the Junior World Championships with Maria Lamb (River Falls, Wis.) winning a silver medal in the ladies’ 1500-meters.

 

Lamb finished the 1500-meters in 2:07.48. Nancy Swider-Peltz, Jr. (Wheaton, Ill.) barely missed a spot in the top 10 with an 11^th place finish in 2:10.86. Teammate and training friend Margaret Crowley (Winnetka, Ill.) finished in 12^th place in 2:11.00.

 

Lamb also had a successful performance in the ladies’ 1000-meters with a sixth place finish in 1:24.16. Swider-Peltz, Jr. finished 15^th in 1:25.99 and Crowley in 26^th place with a 1:27.82 finish time.

 

In the men’s 1500-meters event, Paul Dyrud (Plymouth, Minn.) was the top U.S. finisher with a sixth place finish in 1:56.64. Michael Blumel (Woodbury, Minn.) finished 16^th in 1:59.90, followed by teammate Patrick Meek (St. Louis, MO) who finished in 33^rd place with a 2:04.40 finish time.

 

In the overall standings after two days of competition, Lamb is currently ranked fifth with 126.933 points. Swider-Peltz, Jr. stands at 11^th place with 128.895 points and Crowley is currently 22^nd with 130.807 points.

 

Like Lamb, Paul Dyrud is also ranked fifth after two days of competition. Dyrud has

117.680 points. Blumel is currently in 13^th place overall with 120.420 points and Meek

is ranked 27^th with 124.324 points.
