HEERENVEEN, Netherlands (Feb. 19, 2005) – U.S. Speedskating superwoman Jennifer Rodriguez (Miami, Fla.) heated up the ice at the ISU World Cup Saturday with a gold medal in the ladies’ 1000-meters race.

 

Rodriguez finished the race in 1:15.65. Teammate Chris Witty (West Allis, Wis.) finished in the top 10 with a sixth place finish in 1:16.94. Fellow Wisconsinite Elli Ochowicz (Waukesha, Wis.) finished in 18th place in 1:19.05.

 

In the ladies’ 3000-meters, Catherine Raney (Elm Grove, Wis.) was the top U.S. finisher with an 18th place finish in 4:17.31. Kristine Holzer (Boise, Ida.) finished 19th in 4:22.71.

 

In the men’s 1000-meters, the Dutch swept the top four spots with Jan Bos taking home the gold in 1:09.45. Nick Pearson (Vernon, Wis.) was the top U.S. finisher with an eighth place finish in 1:10.07. Joey Cheek (Greensboro, NC) was right behind Pearson with a ninth place finish in 1:10.08. Kip Carpenter (Brookfield, Wis.) finished 16th in 1:10.83. Derek Parra (Orlando, Fla.) finished 18th in 1:10.93 and Casey FitzRandolph (Verona, Wis.) finished 20th in 1:12.19.

 

KC Boutiette (Tacoma, Wash.) was the lone U.S. skater in the men’s 10,000-meters event where he finished eighth in 13:54.40.
